Quality Dental Plan: Charlotte’s BEST Dental Discount Plan

Thanks to some connections across the country, I am very pleased to announce another exciting development in our dental practice that we truly believe will benefit patients, and that is the Quality Dental Plan, the first nationwide dental discount plan that is truly designed to be AFFORDABLE to both employers and individuals.  In fact, we plan on going out into the small business community to promote this as an affordable way to offer dental benefits to their employees and for their employees to get better dental coverage than with traditional or even PPO dental insurance.  So just how does the Quality Dental Plan work? For Employers: Talk about economical and simple to administrate: all you have to do is pay a 1-time annual fee of $347 per employee......AND THAT'S IT!  You have now provided each employee with dental benefits that far exceed what they can usually get from typical dental insurance.  No monthly deductions, no monthly payments, and I'd bet about anything that you will be paying less than you currently pay for your company's dental benefits.  It COMPLETELY eliminates your administrative work except that all you have to do is let us know if you add or subtract any employees during the year.  THAT'S IT!  And if you want to add a little more value for your employees, you can sign up their family members for ONLY $197 EXTRA PER PERSON! Theoretical Employer Scenario: 10 Employees x $347 = $3470 annual enrollment.  You're done.  :-) Say each employee has 1 family member, so you decide you want to cover them, too.  So 10 family members x $197 = $1970; so now you've paid a TOTAL of $5,440 and ALL of your employees and their [...]

Making improvements and updates

As much as I've been integrating some awesome new technology into our practice, I've also been working to add useful material to my other practice websites and wanted to make sure people take the time to browse through them, too.  I have 2 more websites that I have to get up and running in the very near future, so be on the lookout, but for the moment, I hope you'll find these 2 sites helpful: Cosmetic Dentistry in Charlotte by Dr. Charles Payet General/Family Dentistry by Dr. Charles Payet

Further Information on LANAP Treatment for Gum Disease in Charlotte

OK - so I'm just going to be adding a LOT of information about periodontal (gum) disease and how the Periolase MVP-7 laser treats it so well; in addition, I'll finally be getting around to adding more information on the significant health effects that gum disease can have, including: Increased risk of heart attack Increased risk of stroke Risk of worsening diabetes Increased risk of pre-term births Increased risk of low-birth-weight babies Just so you know I'm not making this stuff up :-)  , here are a few videos by national news programs that will help fill in the gaps: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plY5BFCP5kM&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1] [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tvVqVxUpGc&rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1] And in case you missed Whoopi Goldberg talking about her gum disease on "The View," don't miss it again! Laser dentistry in Charlotte

Despite the solid research and years of terrific results that accompany the PerioLase MVP-7 dental laser in treating moderate-to-severe periodontal (gum) disease, it is amazing to me how slowly it is still catching on.  I'm heading to Cerritos, CA on Wed., August 12th to attend the 3 days of Boot Camp, otherwise known as 3 days of a bunch of dentist geeks who really love providing the best care to their patients sitting around and talking laser physics.  :-)  LOL  Yes, I'm one of those dentist nerds - we'll even be talking about lasers, gum disease, etc. over dinner and drinks, late into the evening.  But still.......once I receive my laser, I will be one of only 4 dentists in Charlotte - one of only 7 dentists in all of western North Carolina - and one of only 19 dentists in ALL of North Carolina to have this remarkable laser. LANAP - the most effective, most comfortable treatment for periodontal (gum) disease available The procedure is called LANAP, or "Laser Assisted New Attachment Protocol."  What it means in practical terms is that, following treatment with the protocol (which is extremely strict, which is why Millenium Dental, the manufacturer, does not even allow a doctor to have the laser until after the initial 3 days of training), your gums will actually REATTACH to your teeth, and oftentimes the bone will actually grow back!  Yes, you read that correctly, this laser and protocol can actually stimulate your body to REGENERATE LOST BONE SUPPORT FOR YOUR TEETH! No other laser has ever been shown to have this capability. But what else can the PerioLase dental laser do? Laser Root Canal Treatment: the laser can be used during a [...]

Painless Laser Gum Surgery and One-Visit Smile Makeovers in Charlotte NC

Man oh man, am I excited!  We are taking some bold new steps in technology here at Smiles by Payet Dentistry by upgrading to the newest version of our In-office, 1-Visit Crowns CAD/CAM system, the CEREC AC Bluecam, AND we're FINALLY adding the Periolase MVP-7 laser to our practice, which is THE most effective treatment for gum disease available today.  Lots more information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the equipment arriving.  The Periolase will hopefully be in the office by late August, and the CEREC Bluecam by early September. But what do each of these additions mean to YOU?  Some pretty good things, actually: 1) The CEREC Bluecam is even faster and more accurate than my current CEREC 3D, and it's software is designed to make doing 4-6 or more veneers/crowns much easier, faster, and better.  The other really cool thing is that, even if we can't do the actual restoration with the CEREC, it's software allows us to take digital impressions and EMAIL them to the lab!  That means NO MORE GOOEY IMPRESSIONS!  And the accuracy is just phenomenal.  With it's speed and accuracy, we anticipate being able to complete a 6-10 tooth Smile Makeover in JUST ONE VISIT!  How amazing would that be?  It can be done with the current version I have, but it's slow, clunky, and would take absolutely forever - no thanks. 2) As excited as I am about the Bluecam, what I'm MOST excited about is the Periolase MVP-7 laser.  This is groundbreaking technology, but it's not just the laser itself, it is that it's backed by a FDA-approved, patented protocol for success, not just some company's word that it works.  The Periolase has more research [...]

Minimally invasive dentistry with a dental microscope

I sure wish I had the HD video hookup for my dental microscope already, but since I don't yet, I'll keep showing you stuff with my Canon cameras.  :-) One of the most incredible benefits of the microscope is the ability to work on levels of detail that aren't even imaginable without one.  And that means that I can do VERY VERY VERY VERY SMALL, CONSERVATIVE fillings.  I use teensy little burs to remove the absolute minimum amount of tooth structure, not really big ones that dig out way more than necessary.  I just wanted to show you an example of how this looks using a patient from this morning; the benefits of this are pretty obvious:

Six Month Adult Braces in Charlotte is taking off!

Wow!  That's about all I can say at the moment with the response we are getting to our WBT radio ad and better positioning on the Internet for Google searches.  Here's a fun little thing: go to Google.com and do a search for "braces charlotte," and guess what - my website www.SmilesbyPayet.com is right there on the first page!  Yeehah!  LOL  And boy can we tell - the number of people calling us almost every day is amazing.  Some days I feel like I'm becoming an orthodontist! I figure it would be good to highlight a couple cases that we've recently started and follow them through so you can actually see the progress.  If you like what you see, Make an Appointment for a Free Consultation today! Mike's case Mike has been a patient for several years, but somehow we had never asked him if he was interested in straightening his teeth.  With our new Six-Month Smiles posters around the office, he decided to ask what it was about and if he was a good candidate.  Turns out, even though he has some pretty crooked top and bottom teeth, he really is a good candidate.  He was NOT interested in a full 2-3 year, comprehensive orthodontic plan - he just wants to feel good about his smile. Stephanie's case Stephanie found us through a Google search even before moving from the Midwest for a job transfer.  She'd been ready to start Six-Month Braces with a dentist there, but with the move she chose to wait until she got here, and we started her braces just a few days after Mike's.    Her braces should go a bit faster than Mikes, but that can be [...]

Before & After Pictures of Another One-Visit Porcelain Crown with CEREC

Interestingly, this porcelain crown was done on the same patient as the last gold onlay that I posted.  So why a porcelain crown on this tooth instead of gold?  Simple -- this one is more visible in his smile, and he wasn't interested in having "bling" in his smile.  LOL  Given that strength and durability of his porcelain crown is also very important, as is obvious by his choice of gold for his second molar on the other side, we did use what is currently the strongest porcelain crown available today, whether made by a lab or with our CEREC, and it is called Emax.  This ceramic is incredibly strong, far superior to the old Porcelain-Fused-to-Gold (PFM) crowns that have been used for decades.  And, of course, we did it in a single appointment. Just to review the advantages of CEREC 3D CAD/CAM Porcelain Crowns, and why we're proud to offer them at our Southpark Charlotte NC dental office: Just 1 Appointment No temporary (provisional) crown No worries about the temporary crown falling off Incredibly strong Very natural-looking and blend in beautifully LESS sensitivity afterward because the tooth is immediately bonded and sealed If you need a crown and are looking for the convenience and excellent result we can provide with our CEREC 1-visit crowns, call us or visit our website: 704-364-7069 Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Charlotte NC

Gold Fillings, Crowns, Onlays for Teeth – still the Gold Standard!

When asked what filling or crown material will last the longest, there is a very simple answer that has held true for over a century now, and it is still true today: Gold crowns, onlays, and dental bridges.  Plain and simple, as much as I love doing cosmetic/esthetic dentistry with the ceramic materials available today, I still feel confident that NOTHING will last as long as a gold tooth restoration. To tell the truth, I haven't always felt that way, but I've come to that conclusion based on 11 years of seeing dental work that works over the long-term.  For many years after graduating dental school, I never did gold restorations except in extreme situations where it was the only realistic material.  But I have seen too many gold crowns, gold onlays, gold inlays, and even gold bridges that are 30-, 40-, or even 50+ years old!  While very few dental materials have been in use longer than 30 years, of those, none have had the longevity of gold.  So what are the advantages of gold? It requires minimal drilling of a tooth to have sufficient thickness to be strong - only 0.5mm (trust me, that's SMALL!) It has the ability to deform slightly over time to match changes in adjacent teeth It can be burnished, or "massaged" hard to the tooth edge to create an amazing seal against bacteria, sugar, acid, etc.  Only in the last few years have porcelains reached equivalent seals, and even then the porcelains require absolutely exquisite bonding technique or they're doomed to early failure. So here is today's example of a tooth with a failing silver/amalgam filling (decay around the edges and deep cracks that could have led to [...]

Charlotte Cosmetic Dentistry: Correcting a Gummy Smile with a Gum Lift

Cosmetic Dentistry can take many shapes and forms, and it is so important for you to find a cosmetic dentist who knows about all the options, not just teeth whitening and veneers.  Sometimes those are the wrong thing, and that's especially true for patients with a gummy smile.  In the patient here, it was a "gum lift", or periodontal plastic surgery Sometimes Teeth Look Short Because of Too Much Gum Covering Them Mia first came to my office in March 2007 to ask if Porcelain Veneers could give her the smile she'd always wanted.  Her complaint was that her teeth were too short and square, and she hoped that veneers could make them longer.  However, the problem was NOT that her teeth were too short; the problem was that she had too much gum COVERING her teeth, making them appear shorter than they really were. Mia's Smile Before the Gum Lift Don't Put Crowns Close to Bone, or What is Biologic-Width Invasion? Mia also had old dental crowns and bridges in need of replacement.  Twenty years ago, her dentist put the edges very far under the gum and too close to the bone.  When that happens, your body thinks it's a foreign object and tries to get rid of it, but can't, so the gums get irritated, sore, and red - no matter how much your brush and floss.  When a crown edge is too close to bone, we call it a biologic width invasion. Cosmetic Gum Surgery, or a "Gum Lift" So after plenty of consultation, Mia decided to go with the corrective gum surgery.  The technical name is "Esthetic Crown Lengthening," which simply means that we are making the teeth look prettier by making [...]
